lyrics

Wish On A Firefly by: Kailey Stevens

She caught a drifting dream, put it in a jar.
She was barely fifteen, never got very far.
Made a wish on a Firefly, never knew how it worked.
She’d spend her whole life wishing if it didn’t hurt.

She took a bus into town, tried to get away.
She wrote a song, the lyrics were her escape.
And her thoughts were ablaze, with a golden glow.
Saying "Should I stay, or should I go?"

Cause in this big wide world, you’re not alone.
A million people want to steal your throne.
She was pushed down and kicked around, told it wasn't worth the fight Forgetting she needed to keep looking towards the light

Sat down one day, she was about to cry.
Gonna kiss her parents goodbye.
Gonna chase her dream, chase it all around.
Gonna chase it down, ‘til it’s finally found.

And she struggled with the mountain climb, trying to forget the lies. Saying, “Hold on, we'll make it out alive.”
Things might be hard but they'll turn out just fine.
Fearless she faced the wind, all through the night.

Braving the final stretch knowing she was going to be all right.
And when she reached the top, and saw the light.
Said a quiet prayer, to stay polite.
Wished on a Firefly, but it never felt rite.

And the years passed by, they were flying past.
And everything, seemed to come so fast.
I thought about tomorrow, and now it's yesterday.
My little firefly, carry my wish away.

Before she left the room, she sat down and bowed her head.
With the softest possible whisper she said.
Maybe I should stay; my time might come one day.
Its dreams like these that make me want to leave.

Higher than the satellites, faster than the speed of light.
Stay in my dreams tonight.
Made a wish on a firefly.
Everything's gonna be alright.
